A Story that Needs to be Told...

Inspiring and comedic, Confessions of a Mormon Boy is running a strictly limited season in Sydney and Melbourne until 9th March. This autobiographical production will leave you in awe of the triumphs and tribulations this brave man struggled through to become the hilarious actor he is today.

The writer and actor of this production, Steven Fales, has conquered more than the ordinary man would in a lifetime and it makes for a fascinating evening in this one-man storytelling sensation Confessions of a Mormon Boy. Navigating his homosexuality in the famously homophobic Mormon religion, he was ultimately excommunicated. Without the regiments and familiarity of the church which had consumed his early life, Steven Fales quickly spiralled into a life of sex, drugs and assorted debauchery. As he navigates his new found freedom, we hear the tale of how Mr Fales eventually overcame the odds.

Steven Fales is highly charismatic and it is his enchanting mannerisms that make this production the phenomenal sell out that it is. With the trademark Mormon smile, he navigates each scene with honesty and does not shy away from the difficult subjects that encroached his younger years such as the AIDS epidemic.

The venue lighting was minimal, and standard projections were utilised the majority of the production. This was modified during the partying scenes during the second part of the performance, where red and multicoloured lights were used to convey uncertainty and chaos. The set was almost bare, containing little more than a bench and coat rack. This allowed for Steven Fales to be the main centrepiece of the stage. With costume changes aplenty, Confessions of a Mormon Boy expertly maintains the audiences attention and Steven Fales is certainly willing to show his body for the audiences amusement in scenes including one discussing Mormon undergarments.

Confessions of a Mormon Boy just might be the best performance you will see in 2019 and Steven Fales will leave you feeling uplifted and hopeful about the future. Playing for a strictly limited season in Sydney and Melbourne, On the House members can use promo code ‘MORMON’ to receive 2 for 1 tickets.
