The Thailand Ladyboy Superstars Cabaret show has arrived to the Big Top on the St Kilda foreshore.

Once you walk in, you are immediately welcomed by the extravagantly dressed lady boys. They smile, they escort you to your table. The setting is certainly fit for a cabaret with table seating. Each table is decorated by a faintly lit lamp.

If you have not been to Thailand and are not sure what to expect, you may find yourself a bit like me, somewhat perplexed at first.

I look at the lady boys with their perfect figures, feminine gestures, and beautiful faces and see no difference between them and any other attractive women.

I later spoke to another patron sitting at a nearby table. He says he has been to Thailand many times. He says that in Thailand there are 3 genders and explained a few things about the Thai culture. For him, watching this show brought back memories of how the Thai people love to entertain, play practical jokes, make fun and not take themselves too seriously. Indeed, the show is all that.

This is a two-hour showcase of ladyboys in bright, stunning cabaret outfits, dancing to some well-known and much-loved songs. They lip synch and pay tribute to performers like Tina Turner, Whitney Houston and Cher. In some acts, they lure audience members on stage.

One poor lad was made to hold balloons in each hand, on his head and between his legs whilst one of the ladyboys held out some sharp darts which she was planning to pop the balloons with from about five meters away. She apologised to the audience in advance, saying "First time for me", "Last time for him" and then promptly added, looking at him sternly, " If you move, not my fault!".

Another two ladyboys put a blindfold on him. By now, I would have bolted from the stage but not this guy. He stood there proud with a slightly awkward smile. What happens next is something I did not expect. It all ended well but to know exactly what happened there well, you really should come and watch the show!
