Madame is the story of a lonely yet wealthy socialite, Anne (Toni Colette), who is married to her art-dealer husband, Bob (Harvey Keitel). Through chance, Maria (Rossy de Palma), Anne's maid, finds herself thrust into a high society dinner party as a guest. She is instructed by Anne to blend in, not drink too much and stay quiet.

Meanwhile, Bob's son, a lack-lustre novelist, Steven (Tom Hughes) is also attending this lavish dinner party. He is in search of a good story and a creative spark. He decides to amuse himself and use the privileged information about the maid to start a rumour. At the dinner party, Maria can't help herself; she tells jokes, enjoys the expensive wine, and is anything but quiet. To Anne's surprise, she catches the eye of David (Michael Smiley), a wealthy friend of Bob.

Soon a love story develops between David and Maria. Steven watches this love story unfold and begins writing the script for his new novel "The Maid". One lie breeds another and as is often in life, lies surface and the uncomfortable truths play out. Towards the end of the film, one is left wondering which door will open and which will shut, all the while, hoping that love will triumph.

This is a wonderful, light comedy on the topics of happiness, love, risk and managing disappointments.

Highly recommended.
